Basic golf short shot is laden with accurate concepts to actually deliver a precise putt or chip. And here are some tips to live by and acquire them.

You must know that a solid putting swing is the same as a chipping swing and that these short golf shots are most of the times complicated with the breakdown or collapse of the left wrist in the hitting area. During a swing, the left wrist flips making the club head travel upwards when it should have moved downward and forward with respect to the swing. Great putters make a swing without any change in the left wrist position. Great chippers have the flat left wrist up to the follow-through. Thus golfer with bent left wrist action can reconsider to this important swing dynamic to work on.

Work on your putter position by holding the club 90-degree vertical to the green. Hold the club with your left wrist on the golf grip matching your flat left wrist to the flat club face. Check the putter face alignment and the flat left wrist; they should line up.

During the swing, bring the focus to your shoulders moving the arms and the flat wrist. A vertical line should be made by the shaft and left arm. A mirror can help you check your movement or you can also press your arm and club against a wall to check your alignment. By ensuring that the left wrist is flat you can be sure that there will be a solid impact to the ball.

Now the chip swing is quite similar but with a different stance. Make your hands opposite your leg by leaning the shaft to the left. Aim your feet approximately 10-30 degrees to the left and open your stance keeping your weight to the left foot.

Swing as you would during putting. After the impact, the club head should stay low and the left wrist remains flat. Move your shoulders, arms and club moving at the same pace to help you control the distance and the direction of the short shots. The flat wrist will keep your shoulders, arms and the club inline and guarantee that you will have a solid contact with the ball.

The flat wrist is critical to any golfers at any level. Try to notice this technique when watching golf on television and try to ask for more techniques when you happen to know a local PGA professional.
